Getting a Replacement CGM Sensor

Quick Answer

Sensors that fail or fall off early are replaced by the manufacturer, not through your insurance supply. Report it to Dexcom or Abbott right away with the sensor details. Call us if you’re running low before your next scheduled shipment.

Report to the manufacturer

  1. Dexcom: use the support or contact options at dexcom.com or in the Dexcom app.
  2. FreeStyle Libre: contact Abbott customer care through the FreeStyle Libre support site or app.
  3. Have ready: the sensor lot and serial number, when you applied it, when it stopped, and any error message.
  4. Report it soon — manufacturers usually ask that issues be reported within a limited time after the sensor fails.

Your insurance supply schedule

  1. Insurance covers a set number of sensors per period (usually a 30- or 90-day supply). Using an extra sensor doesn’t reset that schedule.
  2. If a replacement won’t arrive in time, call us — we can check when your next shipment is eligible.
  3. Existing patients can reorder on schedule from the Reorder page.

When to call us

  • You’re about to run out before your next eligible shipment.
  • Your manufacturer replacement was denied or delayed.
