CPAP Machine Troubleshooting: Water, Noise & Pressure

Quick Answer

Water in the tubing (“rainout”) usually means the room is cooler than the humidified air — lower humidity or use heated tubing. For noise or air changes, check the filter, tubing, and mask connections. Never change your prescribed pressure without your prescriber.

Water in the tubing or mask

  1. Lower your humidity setting a step, or turn on heated tubing / climate control if available.
  2. Keep the machine lower than your head so water drains back.
  3. Run the tubing under your blanket to keep it warm in a cool room.

Noise or air feels different

  1. Check and replace a dirty or clogged filter.
  2. Look for cracks or holes in the tubing and make sure every connection clicks in fully.
  3. Make sure the water tank is seated correctly.
  4. If the air feels too strong or too weak, talk with your prescriber — pressure is a prescribed setting.

Machine won’t turn on

  1. Check the power cord at both ends and try a different outlet.
  2. Check the power brick light, if it has one.
  3. Look up the error code in your machine’s user guide or manufacturer support site.

When to call us
